My Jail Cell How to Unlock Rooms
Coziness is the key. One defensible bay is the lock. Extra rooms are a reward, not a night-one plan.
Rooms are the skill tree in My Jail Cell. You do not pick a talent. You pile coziness from placed furniture until a locked bay opens. Creators call out gates like 25 coziness for an early unlock and later totals in the 50s and 70s (one clip needed 21 more to open at 54/74). Trust the prompt in your build. This guide is the strategy around those numbers.
Coziness is a sum, not a quest item
Every placed piece adds a number. Beanbags around +9, weaker crates around +6, beds higher, some lamps lower. Three honest S-tier mall pieces can beat a dozen junk chairs. Read how to get furniture and the furniture tier list before you live in Cell Depot.
Coziness does not come from standing in a room, from codes (there are no verified ones), or from pets. Pets are companions. Paint is paint. A toucan pass is a toucan. If the gate says 25, you need 25 on the counter, not a vibe.
Which room to open first
Count entrances before floor space. A cramped one-door bay is S. A wide three-door “extra big room” is a night tax unless you enjoy stacking three barricades. Paid rooms on the game pass list — Main Room 9 Robux, Extra Room 49, Extra Big 59, 24 Hours 79, 40 Nights 29, Medical Bay 185, second floor rows — follow the same rule. Buying space is not buying safety.
Garage from the 7-day streak is extra footprint with extra bays. Use it for carts and overflow, not as night one housing unless you already sealed it.
Order of operations
- Live in the starting cell if you must, but pick the first unlock as a one-door hide.
- Mall until the counter crosses the gate. Place in that room, because you want the barricade and the number in the same box.
- As soon as it opens, stop expanding. Stack the doorway. Put food inside. Run survive the night.
- Only after a clean night, spend leftover coziness on the next bay. Unlock and seal. Never leave a freshly opened hole “for later.”
That last sentence is the whole mid-game. People die in palaces with pretty lights and no door.
Paid unlocks vs earned unlocks
Robux rooms skip the coziness gate and still need furniture, because an empty paid room is just a larger hallway. If you only have 9 Robux, Main Room is a reasonable skip. If you have 199, Never Hungry will save more nights than a second floor. Do not buy Medical Bay because the name sounds like a heal. Confirm what the room actually contains in the live shop.
Save slots let you keep a one-room bunker and a sprawling compound. Load the bunker at dusk (lights update). Expanding in slot 2 does not unseal slot 1 unless you steal the furniture out of it. Do not do that at orange light.
If the gate will not move
- The pieces are not placed. Drag is not place.
- You are looking at a VIP-only bay.
- You are in the wrong experience (links).
- You need 21 more and you are shopping for a +2 lamp. Go back to the mall.
Scripts that “unlock all rooms” skip this page and the Terms of Use. They also break when a new floor ships. Walk the mall.
Open one door. Close it with couches. That is how rooms work here. The compound is what happens when you repeat that sentence without getting greedy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common My Jail Cell questions.
How do you unlock rooms in My Jail Cell?
Place furniture to raise coziness until the room’s threshold is met. Early gates sit near 25. Then seal the new door before you open another.
Should I unlock every room as soon as I can?
No. Open one defensible bay, barricade it, and survive nights. Extra doors are extra patrol problems.
Do game pass rooms still need furniture?
Yes. Paid space is empty space. You still want coziness and a stacked doorway to hide.
Why is my coziness not going up?
The piece may not be placed, it may be low-value, or you may be in a clone shop. Check the number on the prompt after you set it down.
